Approximately 1 in 250 Black women will be diagnosed with the disease and Black women with lupus experience higher rates of mortality and tend to die at a younger age with some studies indicating a mortality gap of up to 13 years.

Dr. Sege brings a wealth of expertise to this vital conversation. As an attending Pediatrician at Tufts Children’s Hospital and a Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he directs the Center for Community-engaged Medicine, he’s deeply committed to addressing health disparities.

His extensive experience extends beyond clinical practice. Dr. Sege is a Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Social Policy, a member of the Leadership Action Team for Massachusetts Essentials for Childhood Team, and serves on the boards of the Massachusetts Children’s Trust and Prevent Child Abuse America. His dedication to child welfare and public health is truly remarkable.
A recipient of the 2019 Ray E. Helfer award from the Alliance of Children’s Trusts and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Sege has also served on national AAP committees and authored significant policies. His work in preventing child maltreatment and youth violence is particularly impactful.

Dr. Williams brings an unparalleled wealth of experience to the table. As a biopharma executive, VP, and Global Head of Medical and Scientific Management, she has over 10 years of industry experience guiding biotech companies through product development. Her career spans over 25 years, including 15 years of clinical practice in adult and pediatric medicine, clinical research oversight, academia, and healthcare management.

Her expertise in adult and pediatric neuroscience and rare disease drug development has contributed to crucial approvals in epilepsy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). She also has significant experience with biologicals and gene cell therapies.

Notably, Dr. Williams is deeply committed to Clinical Trial Diversity initiatives, ensuring equitable representation in medical research. She is a published author in epilepsy and co-authored the CNS Drug Development chapter in “Rare Disease Drug Development.” Adding to her accolades, she’s a 2024 PharmaVoice 100 Honoree!
Dr. Williams’ impressive educational background includes a BA from Dartmouth College, MD from Albany Medical College of Union University, MPH from Harvard T.H. Dr. Williams brings an unparalleled wealth of experience to the table. As a biopharma executive, VP, and Global Head of Medical and Scientific Management, she has over 10 years of industry experience guiding biotech companies through product development. Her career spans over 25 years, including 15 years of clinical practice in adult and pediatric medicine, clinical research oversight, academia, and healthcare management.

Her expertise in adult and pediatric neuroscience and rare disease drug development has contributed to crucial approvals in epilepsy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). She also has significant experience with biologicals and gene cell therapies.

Notably, Dr. Williams is deeply committed to Clinical Trial Diversity initiatives, ensuring equitable representation in medical research. She is a published author in epilepsy and co-authored the CNS Drug Development chapter in “Rare Disease Drug Development.” Adding to her accolades, she’s a 2024 PharmaVoice 100 Honoree!
Dr. Williams’ impressive educational background includes a BA from Dartmouth College, MD from Albany Medical College of Union University, MPH from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and MBA from Isenberg School of Management. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
