Black women are three times more likely to develop lupus compared to White women. Approximately 1 in 250 Black women will be diagnosed with the disease and Black women with lupus experience higher rates of mortality and tend to die at a younger age with some studies indicating a mortality gap of up to 13 years.

We’re thrilled to announce Robert Sege as a panelist for the upcoming Blue Bridge discussion on March 28th, from 6-9 PM in Roxbury, MA. This important event will focus on the disproportionate impact of rare and chronic diseases on Black and Brown communities.

Dr. Sege brings a wealth of expertise to this vital conversation. As an attending Pediatrician at Tufts Children’s Hospital and a Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he directs the Center for Community-engaged Medicine, he’s deeply committed to addressing health disparities.

His extensive experience extends beyond clinical practice. Dr. Sege is a Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Social Policy, a member of the Leadership Action Team for Massachusetts Essentials for Childhood Team, and serves on the boards of the Massachusetts Children’s Trust and Prevent Child Abuse America. His dedication to child welfare and public health is truly remarkable.
A recipient of the 2019 Ray E. Helfer award from the Alliance of Children’s Trusts and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Sege has also served on national AAP committees and authored significant policies. His work in preventing child maltreatment and youth violence is particularly impactful.

With degrees from Yale College, MIT, and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Sege’s background is as impressive as his commitment to community health.

On Sept 16th, Blue Bridge hosted an amazing panel discussion between community and industry stakeholders.

The level of engagement was high given the Q&A portion of the evening ran an hour over! My mother, who is usually soft spoken, felt empowered and comfortable enough to ask multiple questions regarding her own health concerns. This is the bridge we are building: Trust, Accessibly and Philanthropy.
